Teluk Bidara

Teluk Bidara Beach is about 2 hours, passing through the oil town of Kerteh, Paka and Dungun. This is probably the best beach in the East Coast's mainland. You would greet with a turquoise-blue ocean. The water at this beach is crystal-clear. There is a lanai-style gazebo where one could climb up for better view of the lovely ocean.

Far ahead you could see the islands of Tenggol and Nyireh, famous for prolific diving sites. The water is so clean and calms enough for a swimming. However, the beaches are beautiful, a dream really and extremely quiet, very peaceful.

There is a cave below the end of the hill near the shore where visitors can go in and get to the other side. You can climb the rocks and get a better view of the coast line.


By car:
Drive along Highway 3 towards Kuala Terengganu. After you passed Dungun and the bridge over Sungai Dungun a sign will point for you to turn right. Go right in and you will be greeted by a series of signs. Follow them and you will be reached the beach.

Tanjung Jara

Tanjung Jara embraced by the blue-green waters of the South China Sea, this is one of the more striking beaches. Long, wide stretches of golden sands sloping gently into the greenish blue waters are prominent.

Apart from its breathtaking sunsets, its openness to the powerful waves from the South China Sea creates fascinating sand dunes. Steady winds and reasonably dramatic surf provide an exciting and diverse array of water activities, such as wind surfing, boating and sailing, while the wide, open waters permit kayaking, snorkeling, deep-sea fishing and diving.

Located here is the Tanjung Jara Beach Resort. Styled after a Malay palace, but with all the modern amenities one could wish for, the resort is the recipient of the prestigious Aga Khan award for the best hotel architecture. Seven-time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher took a well-deserved break there after a disastrous season opener in Melbourne. Guests get a taste of the Malay way of life from the wooden chalets and herb garden to traditional spa treatments.

It even caters for "turtle watch" at night between May and September when the turtles visit the beach to lay eggs. The visitors can just tell the reception, that they want to be called, if they have spotted a turtle coming on the beach and they will phone them at night in their room. A little van will take them to the right place on the beach. From here one can even catch a boat to visit some of the fabulous islands off the coast, in particular Pulau Tenggol.


By Car:
If you are driving from Kuala Lumpur, head east towards Kuantan. Use the Karak Highway all the way to Kuantan. The journey should take about three to 3½ hours. Once you arrive in Kuantan, head north-east on highway 3 (coastal road) and you will get to Dungun.
From Kota Baharu, head South down highway 3 - coastal highway all the way to Chukai.

Rantau Abang

At 22km north of Kuala Dungun and 80km south of Kuala Terengganu, it is probably the most talked about tourist spot in Terengganu. There was a time when a great number of giant leatherback turtles came to Rantau Abang to lay their eggs between May and August. (Peak egg laying months are June and July).

Rantau Abang beaches are well-known for its turtles. In fact, the state of Terengganu's penchant to associate itself with turtles started here in Rantau Abang. Nonetheless, this beautiful beach makes up for it. The water is crystal clear and enticing enough for a swim. You could also climb the giant boulder rock, admiring its geological formation of different sedimentary layers throughout millions of years. Also it provides an amazing bird's eye view of the beach.

For more information on the leatherbacks, there is a Turtle Information Centre managed by the Department of Fisheries at Rantau Abang. The rangers have been patrolling the beaches to ensure safety for the turtles when they come onto shore to lay their eggs. The centre is open every day except Friday and public holidays.



By Car:
From Kuantan, drive north for about 2 hours, passing through the oil town of Kerteh, Paka and Dungun. From Dungun town, head further north for another 5 minutes. You should be passing over the Dungun river bridge. After the bridge, passing by the exit to Teluk Bidara recreational beach, you will see a curve on the road and giant rock boulders which marks the beginning of Rantau Abang beaches on your right.

Paka

Paka Beach which is about 16km north of Kertih is a secluded wide stretch of golden sands sloping gently into the sea, with small clusters of tall-swaying palms.

The glorious and awe-inspiring daily sunrise can be observed from here or, better still, from the Sungai Paka Bridge near the river mouth. The unfolding of nature's grandeur over fishing villages and coconut groves is best captured as dawn begins to break, with the sky emblazoned in a multitude of fiery red, orange and yellow, lasting no more than ten minutes.

If without the beach, Paka is a typical quite and dead fishing village with wooden kampong houses, jetty and fishing boats. Passing by the petroleum processing plants in the night time is a amazing experience. The huge refinery plant brightly lighted appears in a suddenly in a bare land, like a star city appear in the middle of the sky.


By Car:
To reach Paka from Kuala Lumpur, take the New East Coast Highway heading towards Kuantan, Pahang. Then head north towards Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu.

As you drive along the road, you will see a large gateway portal that says you've entered the state of Terengganu. Drive until you reach Kemaman town.

In Kemaman, the highway will suddenly turn to the right. Follow the sign heading towards Kuala Terengganu. Around 15km or so north of Kerteh, you'll reach Paka.

By Bus:
Go to the Hentian Putra Bus Station in Kuala Lumpur. Buy a bus ticket to Paka, Terengganu. We recommend that you buy tickets from the bigger and well-known bus companies such as Transnasional, Mara-Liner or Mutiara Express. The bus ride will be between 4 1/2 hours to 6 hours, depending on weather and traffic conditions.

Refrain from taking cheaper bus tickets from bus companies that I did not recommend or you'll end up with an 8-hour trip on a not-so-comfortable bus that breaks down half-way across Pahang.

Please remind the bus driver that you're getting off at Paka.

If you are still confused, just ask the local when you reach Paka as it's the only seaside resort there.
Take the small road that leads to Paka Residence Resort. Behind the Resort is Paka Beach.

Try not to sleep on the bus, after you've reached the Terengganu borders, or you'll drive pass by Paka and end up in Dungun. If you do miss Paka, take the bus all the way to Dungun. Then you can rent a taxi or another bus back to Paka.
Do not forget to get your bags or luggage from the bus luggage compartment when you get off.

By Air:
You'll be boarding a flight from KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) to Kuantan, Pahang.

When you reach Kuantan Airport, you can take a taxi to Paka (it'll cost you around US$20 or RM80). The journey will take around 2-3 hours.

Penarik

Pantai Penarik is located within a recreational area frequently attended by the locals. There seemed to be a camping ground and probably some motel rooms here too. The water is fantastic and the view of traditional fishing boats docked at the beach by the local villagers is something you could treasure.

The beach tends to get very breezy because of the open sea. From here, the visitors can catch a glimpse of the famous islands off the coast of Terengganu - on the far left are the Perhentians, sitting in the middle is the small island of Pulau Lang Tengah, and far right is the world-famous Pulau Redang. There are a few food stalls here, plenty of picnic benches and ample parking spots.

Driving along Penarik is a pleasant experience. Along the way, there are coconut trees shading the road and Malay village houses spotted here and there between the trees. The beach, Pantai Penarik is somewhere behind the coconut trees, 90km to the north of Kuala Terengganu. Straight and sandy coast line is the major attraction for holiday seekers who intend to tan their skin and have a couple hours of quite and relaxing time.

By Car
From Kuala Terengganu, take the coastal road to Merang and from there just travel north to Penarik.

From Kota Baharu, head towards Kampung Raja in the Besut district and signs will indicate the coastal road down to Terengganu. Follow the signs and when you hit the Setiu district, you'll know that Penarik won't be far away.

By Bus
From town, grab a local bus to Penarik from the local bus terminal although it may be infrequent and often waits till there are enough passengers before leaving.

Kijal

Besides traditional fishing activities, Kijal is known as a vacation place with tranquil and beautiful scenic view of its mile long beach with coconut tree and pine tree waving in the powerfull breeze from the South China Sea. Kijal is quite famous to tourist who wish to main seclude by anyone where u can rent a room at the many budget inn here. Sadly all the inn are over booked from year on to year on. Finding one empty room here can be count as a blessing.

Pantai Kijal are the most famous place for Golfing and Spa which is run by a 5-Star resort called Awana Kijal Golf, Beach & Spa Resort. They green are quite popular among the many pro golfers in Malaysia to try they 18-hole championship golf course. Besides golfing there is more things that can be done here at Pantai Kijal and if you are tired, you can just go lay lazily at the Spa there for hour and hour.

From Kota Baharu, head South down highway 3 - coastal highway, passing Marang town. From Kuantan, take the East Coast Highway heading towards Kuala Terengganu. When you reach the border of the state of Terengganu, you'll pass through the town of Kemaman. Drive on towards the town of Kijal.From Kijal village, on the old trunk road (past some houses & food stalls), there is a small sign that reads Destinasi Pelancongan Pantai Penunjuk Kijal. Turn left here, past a Malay cemetary, keep along this road & you'll find the beach easily.

Buy a bus ticket at Hentian Putra Bus Station, Kuala Lumpur to Kijal, Terengganu.

Do book your accommodations first. You can stay in Kijal or Kerteh, and take a taxi to the beach. Please DO NOT ask your bus driver to drop you off at Kijal Beach. Kemasik

Located around 10 kilometers north of Kijal town, Kemasik Beach (Pantai Kemasik) is a beautiful and scenic tourist spot that you must visit if you happen to drive along the coastal roads of Terengganu.

This clean and picturesque beach is great for picnics, setting up camping tents, flying kites or just lounging around on the sand. You can also climb the large rocks on the beach and enjoy the view of the sea and beach from there. Nearby you can also view the rustic fishing village at the river mouth of Kemasik River.

There is a mini-park and playground near Kemasik Beach for visitors especially families to enjoy. Once in a while, you might spot a cow or two munching grass in this area. There are several food stalls in Kemasik Beach where you can buy light snacks and have a taste of the local food.





By Car:
Take the East Coast Highway heading towards Kuala Terengganu. When you reach the border of the state of Terengganu, you'll pass through the town of Kemaman. Drive on towards the town of Kijal. Drive slowly when your reach Kijal because you might miss the turn into 'Pantai Kemasik'. Just after Kijal and a slight turn on the road, you'll see a a signboard that says 'Pantai Kemasik'. Turn right after the signboard and you've reached the beach.

Buy a bus ticket at Hentian Putra Bus Station, Kuala Lumpur to Kijal, Terengganu.

They have made for many a winning photograph, and are even more breathtaking when seen up close.

It welcomes her visitors with tall swaying coconut trees, cool fresh air, an incredibly beautiful lagoon and a fleet of fishing trawlers. Any visitors to Pantai Kelulut will be easily captivated by its natural beauty and simplistic ambiance.

Merang

Merang is the gateway to the world famous archipelago of Redang islands. The beach, although not the most famous in the east coast, its long sandy beach and stretches of tall coconut trees and sparkling crystal clear sea water is somehow making Pantai Merang a good stop to enjoy the sea breeze before proceeding to next destination. There are some cheap chalets run by the local offering basic accommodation if you later decided to spend a night or so in this tranquil beach.

In general, the long coastline of Pantai Merang is located about 30 kilometres to the north of Kuala Terengganu.

The name of "Merang" is rather unfortunate as it is often mistaken for another popular beach area that goes by the name of "Marang" to the south of Kuala Terengganu. In recent days, the many beaches along the stretch of coastal Setiu district have gained better visibility to the public with the ever-growing flock of tourists to the idyllic islands off the coast of Pantai Merang, namely Pulau Redang and Pulau Lang Tengah. In fact, regular island goers have to make the compulsory stop at Pantai Merang where the main passenger boat jetty is located.

As Pantai Merang gets out of the ghastly shadow of Pantai Marang, the proliferation of medium- and high-class resorts start to stamp its mark on this long stretch of beautiful beach. Hospitality establishments such as The Aryani and Sutra Beach Resort have been adorning its white sandy beaches for many years, and as of recently, Merang Suria Resort had joined the fray to capture a slice of stopover tourists heading to the popular islands off the coast of Terengganu. It is not uncommon for island-bound visitors originating from different parts of Malaysia and Singapore to stay overnight at the many beach resorts of Pantai Merang before appropriately heading to the islands from Merang Jetty.

Near to the confluence of Sungai Merang and the South China Sea, a massive breakwater has been erected to regulate the depth of the river estuary. The construction has resulted in a man-made lagoon fronting the camping ground on the beach. In the so-called public park area, the beach is decidedly beautiful with swaying coconut trees and shady casuarina trees that produce whistling sounds when the wind is blowing strongly.

A good spot for a visit is the Merang Observatory Station (or Balai Cerap for Universiti Darul Iman). The place looks like a planetarium and is actually used for sky-gazing to determine the beginning of the many special months of Islamic calendar. As the observatory is perched on top of a hill overlooking the vast expanse of Pantai Merang, the view can be considered spectacular.

Either park your car at a designated safe park (a daily parking rate of RM4 - RM7 fee will be levied) and then hitch a ride on the connecting shuttle to Merang village.

Chendering

The subject property is a tourism development land at the beautiful beach of Chendering, Terengganu. It is surrounded by residential, commercial and resort property. Development around the subject property include Qurata Riverside Resort, Taman Permint Jaya and Kuala Ibai Golf and Country Club.

Kuala Terengganu town is about 10km away. The land is elongated in shape and has about 560 metres frontage onto the beach making it very ideal for resort. Electricity and water is available in the vicinity. Chendering, located approximately 6 km from Kuala Terengganu, is the site of the Malaysian Handicraft Centre. The centre offers visitors a wide variety of Malaysian handicraft and also an insight into handicraft making.

Besides being considered as the centre for handicraft and traditional textiles in Terengganu, Chendering is also the site for a national deep sea fishing project. Located 6km south of Kuala Terengganu, Chendering has a long jetty which makes it an excellent site for fishing.

Bukit Keluang

Bukit Keluang Beach is located some 140 km away form the very north of Kuala Terengganu, and few kilometers south from city of Kuala Besut. It is also known as Dendong Beach Park. The beach is just behind a wooden walkway built through a rocky cave extended to the sea.

Bukit Keluang Beach view in this area is one of the most breathtaking and magnificent beach in Malaysia and is also an ideal site and destination for some water sports such as swimming, snorkeling and wind surfing.

Beside the beach, it also offer a fascinated cave for you to explore and most importantly the view in the cave is very impressive and fascinating.

Bukit Keluang cave can be explored through its entrances which are easily reached by walkways. There are easy walkways to help you along so all you need is a flashlight, good shoes and an adventurous spirit.

The cave at Bukit Keluang is not too difficult for novices as minorous can enjoy exploring the cave. It is quite safe. Still, exploring without a guide is not advisable. Its better to get a local villager from nearby village for free or with mere RM50 or RM100 to guide you in this cave.

On top of these, Pantai Bukit Keluang is also a favorite destination during weekend or holiday and you may see people come in family or group for picnicking and camping.

From Kuala Lumpur, take the East Coast Highway heading towards Kuala Terengganu. From Kuala Terengganu, head towards Kota Bharu. The beach is located in Kuala Besut near the border of Terengganu and Kelantan.
If you are from Kota Bharu, head towards Kuala Terengganu and when you reach Jerteh in Besut, take the exit to Kuala Besut. You'll find the beach before you reach the Kuala Besut Jetty.

Batu Rakit

It is 30km from Kuala Terengganu or 15 Km from Merang in the north. Pantai Batu Rakit is on the unspoiled shores dotted with colourful fishing boat and surrounded by lush forest.

There are fishing villages adjoining to the beach, catch the coming home fishing boats in every good weather evening for fresh fish or look for stalls by the road selling Terengganu famous keropok lekor, otak-otak and Satar. In some sunny days, the famous Pulau Redang and former Vietnamese refuge island, Pulau Bidong are visible from the beach.

Try seafoods tempura (goreng celup tepung) at the Batu Rakit beach stalls, the stall serves varieties tempura such as fishes, crabs, squids, prawns, sting rays, bananas, keropok etc. Batu Rakit is also famous for fried kue tiau with squid and chicken. Try the stall opposite the mosque along the main road.





Batu Rakit is a small town within the District of Kuala Terengganu. ated some 15 kilometres to the north of the state capital. Within the town area of Batu Rakit, there are numerous beaches that are within reach, mostly between the fishing villages outside the town centre.

Batu Burok

Pantai Batu Buruk Kuala Terengganu is undoubtedly the most famous beach in Terengganu, with white sandy beaches and swaying casuarinas lining up behind the shore, like a loyal friend to the waves. During windy days, playing kite on the beach is a good idea but swimming can be dangerous here.

The shine of clear golden sands against the cool blue sea forms a nice backdrop for the popular market, which was started less than two years ago. It operates from 3pm to 7pm.

There are plenty of non-water-based sports activities conducted here. Kite flying is the most popular activity organised on the beach apart from regular beach soccer in the evening. Others play volleyball, sepak takraw, beach soccer, netball and other games at the beach. For younger children, there is a playground nearby where they can have have fun on the see-saws, ladders or play hide-and-seek.

Pantai Batu Buruk is located just outside downtown Kuala Terengganu. There are plenty of road signs that will point you to this beach, especially if you are driving northbound from Pahang and Kuala Lumpur.

By Bus
Batu Buruk and the surrounding beaches are easily reached from Kuala Terengganu by bus (Marang / Dungun), mini bus ( No.14 / 13) beca and taxi or even on foot for the more intrepid visitor.

Teluk Air Tawar

Shaded by willowy trees, this scenic beach is ideal for picnicking on the golden sand. Pulau Perhentian can be clearly seen from here. The beach is very well-taken care of with facilities for recreational activities for the families in the evenings and weekends.

The beach of Teluk Air Tawar is located to west of the island of Pulau Tenggol. All passenger boats departing from Kuala Dungun will disembark off the beach.

By car:
From Kuala Lumpur, take the East Coast Highway heading towards Kuala Terengganu. From Kuala Terengganu, head towards Kota Bharu. The beach is located in Kuala Besut near the border of Terengganu and Kelantan.
If you are from Kota Bharu, head towards Kuala Terengganu and when you reach Jerteh in Besut, take the exit to Kuala Besut. You'll find the beach before you reach the Kuala Besut Jetty.

By Bus:
Buy a bus ticket at Hentian Putra Bus Station, Kuala Lumpur to Besut, Terengganu.
Local bus: Take a bus running between Kemaman-Chukai-Dungun

By air
There are flights to Kuala Terengganu by Malaysia Airlines. From the airport, grab a taxi to Besut.
